Steel Magnolias

Welcome to the 2023-2024 Season of Main Street Players. It is because of your patronage that our doors have remained open for 22 years! Norma promised laughs this year and the season opener certainly fills that bill.

Steel Magnolias was based on a true story and was written by Robert Harling in just ten days. The events that inspired it were so powerful that, “It just poured out into my typewriter in a 24/7 tsunami of Southernness. All I knew was that I felt it portrayed my sister’s life and spirit accurately, and that was enough for me.”

It is one of the most produced plays in the United States and for good reason. Steel Magnolias is about friendship. It’s about celebrating life and when those moments of despair darken our journey, it’s about helping one another and going on with life afterwards. As the title suggests the “female characters are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel.”

I am so privileged to have Alexandra, Carla, Elise, Jill, Kim and Nancy as my magnolias. From the beginning, Keith, Karen and I were doubling over with laughter from the casts’ antics and portrayals of these women. Their chemistry is amazing! Thank you, Norma, for this opportunity and for keeping MSP open these many years! Thank you also to BJ, Frank and the many volunteers that constructed our set. Nate, as always thank you for your illumination. This is one of the most fun productions on which I have ever worked-hope you will feel the same!
